Allergen disclaimer

If you or a member of your household has a serious food allergy, always verify allergen information on the product label before consuming. The information shown in the spuun app is provided for guidance only and must not be relied upon as the sole source of truth.

How we derive allergen flags

spuun's allergen flags are derived from a combination of:

• The 14 UK regulated allergens (Food Standards Agency)
• Ingredient-level inference from our canonical ingredient catalogue
• Tesco's published product allergen data, where available
• Conservative defaults — when an ingredient may contain an allergen, we mark it as such, even if not all variants do

We do not perform laboratory testing on individual products. We do not have visibility into manufacturing-line cross-contamination at supplier facilities.

Where allergen data may be incomplete

• Recipe boxes and supermarket products occasionally update formulations. We refresh from Tesco every few hours but cannot guarantee real-time accuracy.
• "May contain" warnings on packs — added by manufacturers to flag possible cross-contamination — are not always exposed via Tesco's APIs. Check the pack.
• Substitutions made by Tesco at delivery may not match the original product's allergen profile.
• Pantry items you already have at home are not part of our checks.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for verifying allergen information on the actual product packaging before cooking and serving. spuun is a meal-planning aid, not a medical tool. If you have a diagnosed allergy, follow your GP, allergist, or dietitian's advice.

In the event of an allergic reaction, seek medical attention immediately. If severe, dial 999.

Reporting an issue

If you spot an allergen flag that looks wrong — either too cautious or missing entirely — please report it: safety@spuun.app. We treat allergen reports as a top priority and respond within 48 hours.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, spuun does not accept liability for allergic reactions arising from supplier mislabelling, product reformulation, cross-contamination at the manufacturing line, or substitutions made at the point of delivery by the retailer. Our terms of service, available at /terms, govern overall liability.
